Mozambique – Maputo :
On Friday 3rd Sept. 11:30 rumors of new riots rose and it has been decided (all shipping agencies and FFws) to close the office until 06/09/2010. General Cargo Vessel have stopped operations. Container vessels have started back operation this morning (03/09/2010) and a minimum service will be provided over the week-end.

4 berths for deep-sea ships and 2 berths for coastal ships + 1 berth for tanker. Ships moored at berth in order of arrival and according length and draught. Mooring has to be vary strong, due to swell that may sometimes enter harbour when SE trade winds are strong, or if cyclone in vicinity. Swell is so dangerous that ships have to goto anchorage or put to sea until weather improves. 

Fresh water : Delivery by pipeline from pier.  /  Draught is calculated basis low tide / Water density : 1.023,5 / ISPS : level 1 / Weather : Rainy seasons : January-March and May- August.

Bulk facilities : Bulk cargo handled at Moles C1 & C2.

Anchorage : No special anchorage-If no berth available on ship's arrival, pilots put ships at best anchorage, according to draft anf length of the ship between reef and shore. Anchorage is prohibited at south of green buoy.

Restrictions : Ships enter and sail thoughout 24 hours. Max tide only 0.95 m. However, tankers berth in daytime only from 05:00 - 16:00 hours.

Delays : No fixed. While berth occupied ships must stay at anchorage.

Max. size : for cargo vessel maximum length 210m maximum draft at berth 10,5m and chanel 12m.

Radio : Toamasina radio - chanels 16,12  MHHF 6210,4 KH/6210,,4 KH.

Tugs : 1 x 2,720 h.p and 1 x 2,2350 h.p equipped with firefighting, available to assist ships manoeuvring in Port. Small tugs and lighters for ships operating on roads. One port launch for crews of ships at anchor .

Pilotage : compulsory, e-mail address : pilot@port-toamasina.com Ships advise  agents hour of ETA . Pilots informed. Due to the extension of breakwater, the South Pass is closed to deep-sea ships, except small coastal vessels. For large vessels , the pilot boat waits on the East Pass on line  277° (T) or range approximately 3,3 n.m. SSE of Prunes Island Lighthouse. The pilot boat listens on VHF channel 16 and works on Channel 12.

Water density : 1,025 / ISPS : Level 1 / Rolling mobile crane. Capacity : 40 tons maxi - Boom : 27 m maxi  /  Weather : Wind prevailing direction: South, Visibility: good. Rainy season from November to March.
Small long distance port with work stations and operations directly on berth.

Ship-owner has to appoint local agent to undertake all port operations and formalities. Due to the draft at berth the maximum weight of cargo allowed is calculated accordingly.

Stevedoring companies (public/ private) : Vessels must cable to agents 24 h in advance their needs as well as any other useful information : tonnage, loading planning etc...
Road: Road connections to vicinities and to Antananarivo. Air connections: Toliara has a regional airport.
