Maximum permissible draft for general cargo vessels is 9.80 m. Basis High tide to berths 3. Therefore, it is compulsory before sending a vessel to Tema with an expected arrival draft exceeding 10 m to approach the agency in Tema for confirmation / Tankers arrivals and sailings are between 06.00 and 18.00 hours GMT / Bottom of harbour consists of sand and mud with frequent hard rocky ground / Water density : 1.025 / ISPS : Level 1 / Weather : May to July : rainy season. August to September : small rains. December to March : dry NE Hartmattan with poor visibility (300m/400m). Winds from W and SW all year except December to March, when there is Harmattan. Dangerous winds are line squalls from E, January to July, swell in the harbour / Private stevedoring.

There is no special facility for transit or general cargo because it is a general purpose port. It depends on the volume of cargo available at a given time, space is created at a given time depending on the type of cargo so the 277,000 sqm is applicable to all types of cargo.
